Electric Bill Rodeo

Filed under: Show Recap — matdiablo @ 7:07 am

5:30 a.m.

The Mat Diablo Radio Programme made its unremarkable debut.

It was shot down after five minutes of an intellectual analysis (to the theme music from Masterpiece Theatre) of the car companies currently vying for the bulk of the buyout money.

Carlos satisfied his need for nonsensical programming by interrupting Mat’s show with the Spider-pig song.

6 a.m.

Mahoney called Young Pat the Intern the “chemistry set” of the 91X Morning Show after the guys plotted to have him take a 5-hour and 6-hour energy shot to see if it would yield (a.) an 11-hour or (b.) a 30-hour energy boost.

The 91X Morning Show kids are hue fans of Gas Tank Rodeo.

(For the record, Mahoney and Carlos are playing right now.)

But Sammi decided to kick it up a notch with a newer, better version of the game:

Electric Bill Rodeo!

According to the latest notice, the power was supposed to be shut off on November 28 had the balance not been paid in full.

But here it is, December 2, and nothing has happened.

Every time she flips a switch she celebrates with a smug grin and a, “What now, SDG&E!?”

She said that the best part is that her roommates are playing too, and they don’t even know it!

Sasha called in with the simple solution to an Electric Bill Rodeo loss: an extension cord.

Mat took a moment to legitimately offer Sammi some monetary assistance. She declined politely as she plans on making “the call” to her mom after the show.

Along with the ever-popular Credit Card Rodeo and Overdraft Rodeo, a caller suggested everyone try playing Alarm Clock Rodeo.

The premise: You know you need an alarm, but you just don’t set it and see if you’ll wake up.

His success rate is 1 in 40, or 2.5%.

Zabrocki called in to talk about the continues success of the “Hold On to Your Butt” campaign, and the numerous other steps the Surfrider Foundation is taking to clean up the beaches.

7 a.m.

Pop Trash: Arrest made in Jennifer Hudson family murders, Battlestar prequel, Spencer and Heidi wedding illegitimate,Julia Roberts is a hippy, and ‘bailout’ is word of the year.

SPECIAL GUEST!

Kyle Gass of Tenacious D called in without his controlling counterpart to talk about the DVD release of his movie Lower Learning, a “must-see instant classic” according to Kyle.

The interview was cut short when his handlers hung up on Mat, since Mat had Kyle on hold for six minutes prior to the first question.

Kyle called back citing technical difficulties, but was hung up on again midway through the first followup question.

Mat said that giving a copy of the crappy movie to an actual teacher is his way of giving back to the educators.

8 a.m.

WHITE TRASH COOKING WITH SAM THE COOKING GUY

SPECIAL THANKSGIVING EDITION!

Sam came in for some more hot plate, microwave oven, good ol’ fashioned home-cookin’!

(Or, in this case, good ol’ fashioned studio-cookin’.)

Today, Sam taught Mahoney how to make a Grilled PB & J! (Click for the recipe!)

Trust him! It’s simple, but amazing.

Basic grilled cheese outside, basic PB & J inside.

Sam has served them as appetizers at a cocktail party. Just cut the bread into fancy strips!

Preston makes a few grilled PB’s every day, but he uses an iron. Sam gave him a nice, warm PB and J and a proud, fatherly pat on the back. It was touchy.

Mat reminded everyone to bid on tickets to the last show before Christmas break LIVE from Sam the Cooking Guy’s house. A star-studded extravaganza with great food, beer for breakfast, Sam’s new kitchen, and Newcastle.

Preston is going to shuttle people back and forth, so feel free to get schwatsed.

Oh, and buy one of these things!

Oh, and his dvds!

Oh, and his book!

Oh and take it to get signed tonight at 6 p.m. at Warwick’s in La Jolla!

Check out each of Sam’s visits on the Video page of the 91X Morning Show website.

Young Pat started a small fire in the studio.

Mahoney has some bad luck with the ladies.

He learned (from Myspace) that his ex-girlfriend wore the $5000 earrings he bought her to her recent wedding. It would not have been such a slap in the face if she had not broken up with him immediately after accepting them.

Mahoney has also recently gotten a new phone after the manhole incident. He posted the number on his private Myspace.

Do you remember the chick he brought to his Superbowl (a beer festival) on the ultimate day date this summer? The demanding one that subsequently ruined the entire night’s plans to be with her dog?

Yeah, her. So this chick calls him up and asks him for $800 after not speaking since the middle of the summer.

She needed the money because her dog (in a tuxedo) had been dognapped.

Mahoney’s response: “F that dog. I wanted to Baxter that dog off the Coronado Bridge.”

Mat said it had to be a plea for Meth money.

THE BOTTOM 40!

When Mat Diablo uses the little power he has to plummet past the pop on top and reach into the depths of the musical charts to dig some gems gleaming with promise and potential out from…

The Bottom 40

News: Travis Barker and DJ AM reunite after recovery, Travis Barker squashes Blink reunion rumors, Faith No More may reunite, The Specials reunion tour, and butt rock fans rejoice as Creed reunites.

New Releases: Akon, Panic at the Disco, and The Decemberists.

This week’s featured tune from Mat’s personal musical piggy bank:

O Valencia! – The Decemberists

Consider yourselves informed.

More Pop Trash: Six Apart buys Pownce, Dwayne Johnson for governor of Florida, Zoolander 2, A Team on the big screen, and best nude scenes of 2008.

Carlos thanked SDG&E because if Sean Merriman doesn’t put the lights out, they will.

Sammi thanked SDG&E for their empty threats.

Preston thanked Carlos for replacing traffic with an agressive f-bomb.

Mahoney thanked the two douches that just got fired from Days of Our Lives.

Mat thanked Mahoney for remarking that he wanted to “Baxter” that chick’s dog.
