Des Moines police say a man arrested on a drunken driving charge was able to slip his handcuffs from behind his back to the front, attack an officer and urinate in the police van en route to the Polk County Jail.Ben Caleb Stodden, 25, of Des Moines, also was charged with assault on a police officer causing injury. A Dallas Independent School District hall monitor is accused of waving a gun and threatening a woman in a road-rage incident Thursday morning. Bobby Strogen, 47, is being held on suspicion of aggravated assault in the Dallas County jail.According to police:
Felicia Laury, 32, and her children were headed northbound on nterstate 45 near the Lamar Street exit when Strogen's vehicle abruptly cut in front of her. A police report states that he cut her off at least two more times before pulling alongside her vehicle and yelling that he would kill her as he pointed a silver handgun at her. Read more...

A pedophile and admitted drug abuser who unsuccessfully appealed a state prison sentence saw that sentence increased sevenfold Wednesday in Berks County Court.Richard T. Balsavage, 28, whose last known address was in the 400 block of Klines Corner Road, Longswamp Township, was sentenced by Judge Stephen B. Lieberman to 24 1/2 to 49 years in state prison.
Balsavage pleaded guilty to taking pornographic photographs of a 2-year-old Kutztown boy and was sentenced by Judge Jeffrey K. Sprecher in 2005 to nine to 23 months in county prison followed by three years of probation. Read more...

Federal officials today charged a contractor for the Internal Revenue Service with repeatedly urinating inside a Detroit IRS building freight elevator, causing a stink for other employees.Michael Hicks, 55, of Detroit is charged with a felony count of malicious mischief, damaging governmental property by a sum exceeding $1,000. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
An affidavit filed today in U.S. District Court says Hicks’ urination caused the IRS to incur a deep cleaning expense of $4,626. Read more...
