The female cabbie recognised Robert Brooks, 28, and Neil Goode, 27, and called police after dropping them home.The pair were jailed for a total of four-and-a-half years at Leicester Crown Court after admitting burglary.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent who tried to import rare tortoises in a box labeled "scorpions" pleaded guilty on Tuesday to animal-trafficking charges, the Justice Department said.It turns out that scorpions also draw an extra look from federal agents.
Rene Soliz faces a maximum one-year sentence and will resign from the Border Patrol after entering his guilty plea in Texas on charges that he illegally attempted to receive 15 Tanzanian leopard tortoises, the department said. Read more...

Despite your initial thought, it's NEVER okay to tape your dog to the fridge
A woman in America has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after she taped an 8-month-old puppy to her fridge following a row with her boyfriend.Police were called to the domestic dispute, which apparently erupted when 20-year-old Abby Toll got angry with her boyfriend because he hadn't got rid of the puppy after it bit her and defecated in the flat. The Louisiana Supreme Court has revoked the law license of a man who pleaded guilty to robbing a Mississippi bank at gunpoint and has been linked to several other bank robberies.Scott Eason Meece, of Hammond, was arrested in April 2007 and charged with robbing the Trustmark National Bank in Wesson, Miss. He later pleaded guilty to the robbery and was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison. Read more...

When "action shots" go horribly wrong
Tourists watched a man fall 300 feet to his death after he posed for a photograph holding on to a cliff by a tuft of grass, coastguards said today.The 39-year-old Polish man tumbled down the sheer cliff face, landing at the bottom in bushes at Seaton in Devon at about 3pm yesterday.
The coastguard helicopter and team were called out by South Western Ambulance to rescue him but paramedics declared him dead at the scene and they helped evacuate his body. Read more...
