A little wedding present from the Harris County PD

Spending a night in jail was probably not the way Billy Puckett dreamed of ending his wedding day.

The just-married Houston man was among motorists arrested this weekend in a drunken-driving crackdown by local law enforcement agencies and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

After 21 years, drug suspect arraigned -- again

A 52-year-old man who allegedly avoided drug trafficking charges in Massachusetts for 21 years by living a quiet life in rural Virginia was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail today after his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court, prosecutors said.

Elias Efremidis, who most recently lived in Front Royal, Va., was brought back to Boston on Thursday to face the 1988 charges, the Suffolk district attorney's office said.

Efremidis's life on the lam ended recently when he shone a laser pointer at police in Virginia, police said. As officers prepared to charge him for that offense, they realized his true identity and contacted Suffolk prosecutors, law enforcement officials said. Read more...

Warming Up Those Cold Feet...

A Japanese man who set fire to a hotel in a bid to buy himself time to chose whether to stay with his wife or marry his girlfriend was sentenced to five years jail Thursday, a court official said.

Presiding Judge Yasushi Watanabe called 40-year-old defendant Tatsuhiko Kawata "egoistic and short-sighted" and dismissed the defence argument that no-one was hurt in the fire, the Kyodo news agency reported. Read more...
