Council worker on sick leave is sacked after taking part in 66-mile endurance bike race

A sacked civil servant yesterday lost his case for unfair dismissal after taking part in a 66-mile endurance bike race while on sick leave with a chest infection.

Andrew Hamlyn, 54, took 92 days off work from his IT job at Teignbridge Council after being signed off with the viral infection and a stress-related illness in October 2007.

But three weeks into his time off he took part in the Dartmoor Devil Endurance Event, which winds through the hilly Devon countryside. He was photographed in the saddle of his racing bike. Read more...

the Jackson County Circuit Court issued a warrant against Brenton L. Ross, an 18 year old male Raytown resident, for four counts of Stealing a Motor Vehicle with a $20,000 bond.

On September 16, 2008, Ross was stopped in Lee’s Summit while operating a stolen vehicle from Greenwood. The stop occurred after a Lee’s Summit officer noticed window damage on the vehicle consistent with other reported motor vehicle thefts. Read more...

Definitely Not A Quality Career Choice...

A San Diego County man wanted for a store robbery was arrested after he showed up to take an examination to become a police officer, authorities said.

Romeo Montillano, 40, was arrested Wednesday for investigation of robbery, making criminal threats and grand theft. He remained in the San Diego County jail on Saturday on $110,000 bail, according to the county sheriff's Web site.

Investigators had identified Montillano as a suspect in a Dec. 8 robbery at a Chula Vista Kmart where a man stole a television, DVD player and telephone, then beat up employees who confronted him in the parking lot, police spokesman Bernard Gonzales said. Read more...

Police say a woman entrusted to look after her neighbor's children watched them closely enough to rip off the parents three times in the last two months.

But new hidden cameras reportedly led to her arrest Wednesday.

"Money and bottles of liquor have been taken three times since the middle of January from a house in the 19000 block of Mallory Drive" in unincorporated Frankfort Township, Will County Sheriff's Lt. William Carlisle said. Read more...

James Miller, 20, stripped down to a pair of white boxer shorts and ran across the pitch at Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park firing a dozen red roses from a bow and arrow in a bid to impress girlfriend Jade Thompson, 19.

Miller however was warned by military bosses he could face a court martial over his stunt and his embarrassed girlfriend dumped him.

Miller, a craftsman in the Light Dragoons regiment, was fined £200 and banned from all football matches for three years for encroaching on a playing area under Football and Disorder Act. Read more...
