Yeah, that probably qualifies as Attempted Homicide

Alameda police arrested a 47-year-old man Monday on suspicion of trying to strangle his 7-year-old son, authorities said.

Officers booked Bashir Haidar into custody on suspicion of attempted homicide, Lt. Bill Scott said.

Police arrested Haidar after receiving a 911 call Monday morning reporting a child having difficulty breathing at a residence in the 1100 block of Regent Street. Read more...

Sounds like a Bon Jovi song...

Damon Ra Sturmey, 39, is thought to have been trying to give his fiancee a fright when fatally shot himself three times in the chest with a nailgun.

He did not realise how badly he would hurt himself, New Plymouth coroner Timothy Scott said yesterday.

After a three-hour inquest, he concluded that he could find no evidence that Mr Sturmey intended to commit suicide. "I don't think he meant the wounds to be fatal." Read more...

Defending yourself against WHAT, exactly?

A North Carolina man accused of breaking into a Maine home, attacking the homeowner in his sleep and leaving him for dead says he was simply defending himself.

Ephriam K. Bennett tells the Portland Press Herald that he went into his neighbor's home in Standish because he was cold and needed to borrow some money. He says he defended himself after 55-year-old Richard Carlson insulted him and tried to take a swing at him Saturday night. Read more...

Prison for kidnappers who fell asleep on the job

Two kidnappers who fell asleep while holding two men hostage in a hotel room in Helsingborg in western Sweden have each been sentenced to five years in prison.

The incident took place in October 2008 when the suspects took the two victims, aged 26 and 33-years-old, to a barricaded hotel room in Helsingborg.

After six hours in the barricaded hotel room, the kidnappers fell asleep, at which point the two victims were able to escape to a nearby petrol station and call police. Read more...

Things You Shouldn't Say To An Off-Duty Po-Po

An off-duty Portsmouth police officer was at The Red Door after midnight on Feb. 7 when he was threatened by a man he had once arrested and assaulted by the man’s friend, police said.

Portsmouth police officer Andre Wassouf was off-duty at The Red Door when he was allegedly confronted by a man later identified as Sean Bent. Police say Bent confronted the officer for arresting him on a previous criminal offense. They said Bent held a glass and told Wassouf, "I should bash your (expletive) head in!" Read more...
