Grand Tarantula is a loud, catchy rock n’ roll group from San Diego, CA. The roots of the band trace back to 1999 when members formed Hot Like a Robot while in high school. After HLAR’s demise in 2006, members hit the road with 90’s indie-rock icon Ken Andrews (Failure, Year of the Rabbit) and Pitchfork buzzers Tape Deck Mountain before forming Grand Tarantula in 2010. Since their formation, Grand Tarantula has quickly become known as one of the best live performances in Southern California. Combining the charm and melody of 60’s doo wop with the grittyness of punk, the energy and talent of this quartet give a fresh take on indie/pop music. In October 2010, the band released the “I’m Not Gonna Let You Go” 7″ picture disc record with art by world-renowned artist Kelsey Brookes; the record was released by Pretty Awesome Records, and all proceeds were donated to the Keep A Breast Foundation. Recently, Grand Tarantula wrapped a U.S. tour with Middle Class Rut, which included a stop at SXSW, and is back in the studio working on a new EP dropping November 5th.
