Like most kids born in the mid 70s, I grew up with the idea that Star Wars was a philosophy and a way of life, more than it was ever a movie. I have feelings of indifference towards the latest films, but only because I can’t be bothered these days.
So am I stoked that everybody is talking today about an Obi Wan Kenobi one-off. Sure why not, I’d go see it!
The Hollywood Reporter got some info today that the film is in the works, and director Stephen Daldry may be at the helm. He’d also oversee the writing of the script along side Lucasfilm.
Since there’s no script yet, there’s no choice on who will play Obi Wan. Although Ewan McGregor said he’d be down if the film ever happens.
“There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything.”
“But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all.”
It may be sooner than you think Ewan!
Disney was smart to buy the franchise as it seems the one-off potential is infinite.
