Few beer enterprises are as aptly named as Escondido’s Backyard Brewery. Located in the literal shadow of the hill that houses Stone Brewing’s castle-like headquarters and sprawling gardens, this small one-man operation has become a cult favorite among locals for its intimate charm and in-house homebrew supply store. It’s a place you probably haven’t heard of until now. The same goes for Backyard’s beers, two of which are featured in this segment: Gulp of America IPA and the red ale Wild Wild West, a nod to the Wild West Homebrew Supply Co.
