Sunday morning reggae is a 91X tradition, and with the Church of Bob, everyone is welcome to tune in, kick back, and chill with us as we celebrate the life and music of Bob Marley.
Join me, Hilary, from 10am to noon every Sunday on 91X as I dive deep into our collection and share the best of Bob’s recordings as well as the music of his peers like Steel Pulse, Gregory Issacs, The Selecter and more.
A lifelong Bob Marley fan, I started collecting his music on cassette in the mid-80s. I remember buying “Bob Marley Live” on vinyl while traveling through Denmark and going to great lengths to get it all the way home without a scratch. When I first started at 91X in 1997, I talked our then-program director into letting me play a Bob Marley song every day at 4:20pm; “Mandatory Marley” continues to be on the radio station every afternoon and has become as much a part of 91X as saying our call letters in Spanish, which still makes me so happy!
In 2003 I traveled to Bob’s birthplace, Nine Mile, in the heart of the Jamaican countryside. I toured his childhood home, met some of his cousins, and even spent some powerful minutes alone inside the mausoleum in which he has been laid to rest. That pilgrimage only solidified my love and appreciation for the power of Bob Marley and his music – anywhere around the world that I’ve ever traveled, the music of Bob Marley has been ubiquitous and universally loved.
Tune in Sunday mornings and join me for the Church of Bob – right after Resurrection Sunday – as we honor the life and music of the one and only international icon, the legendary Bob Marley!
