There was a big announcement on Beer for Breakfast this week.

Brewmaster Paul Segura revealed something the team at Karl Strauss Brewing has been working on with 91X: Tower X West Coast IPA.

Local, Independent brewery with the Local, Independent radio station made sense. The name is a nod to the 91X tower in Tijuana that has been serving San Diego since 1983, but also Lifeguard Tower 10 in Mission Beach was the spot where the idea of Karl Strauss Brewing was born in 1989. This 7.3% ABV West Coast IPA starts with classic piney, resiny aromas, followed by a wave of fruity, citrusy hop flavors and features Citra, Chinook, Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe, Sultana hops.

Tower X West Coast IPA will be available in the Karl Strauss Pubs and stores across San Diego beginning March 2nd.

The Beer for Breakfast crew also sampled Karl Strauss’s 34th Anniversary Barrel Aged Wheatwine. This 8.5% ABV Wheatwine was aged in Chardonnay barrels with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc grape peels. It’s full-bodied with a smooth finish.
