This week the Beer for Breakfast crew got a jump start on Pizza Port Brewing’s Strong Ale Fest. The 24th annual Strong Ale Fest is Friday, December 2 & Saturday, December 3rd and offers 60+ beers over 8.0% ABV on draft. This ticketed event is at Pizza Port Brewing’s Carlsbad pub and sells out every year.

Before Marty, Danielle, and Brewmaster Paul Segura dive into a high ABV beer from Pizza Port Brewing they sampled a Session IPA brewed at their new facility in Imperial Beach. Obsessional Session IPA has an ABV of 5% and is hopped with Cascade, Columbus and Motueka. This Session IPA has big citrus notes and some of that classic rind-type bitterness but with some bright, tropical notes thanks to the Motueka.

They also sampled a seasonal beer that everyone in San Diego Craft Beer waits to be released: Bacon and Eggs. Bacon and Eggs is a 8.0% ABV Imperial Coffee Porter. This year Pizza Port worked closely with Bird Rock Coffee Roasters to update their Pizza Port coffee blend to include Colombian medium roast beans in addition to Ethiopian and Sumatran varietals. The result is a more complex but well-rounded blend which enhances every sip with richer notes of chocolate. Bacon and Eggs is available now at all Pizza Port brewpubs.
